Belly dancing is perfect for women of all ages who want to learn for fun and enjoyment, but who don't necessarily want to become a professional dancer or performer.

It is an amazing form of dance that allows women of all ages, body types and fitness levels, to explore their inner grace and beauty; to devote a little time in their hectic lives to "the me of me"; to allow femininity and sensuality to blossom.
It is the best gift a woman can give to herself; a small window of time to be with themselves, to build confidence, be free of stress, to exercise, and to "dance as if no-one was watching".
Questions about Belly Dancing
Q: Can anyone do it?
A: Anyone of reasonable fitness. If you can tap your toes when the music plays, you can probably belly dance. Some take longer to grasp movements and choreographies than others who might pick it up quicker, but I have yet to come across a student who really cannot belly dance.
Q: Is belly dancing difficult?
A: Sometimes. As you progress, the movements and choreographies will become more complex, but a good teacher will always start with the basics.
Q: Am I too fat to belly dance?
A: Probably not. Most basic moves can be done by anyone in reasonaby good health. (If in doubt - ask your doctor). For most people (even those who might be out of shape), belly dancing provides a moderate workout which is very beneficial, no matter what size you are. Dancers come in all shapes and sizes and I have seen so-called "big" ladies glide across the stage looking graceful and utterly beautiful.
Q: Am I too old to start?
A: No way! Professional performers fall into the 20-40 age group, but dancers performing at amateur levels dance well into their 60's.
The Belly Button Dance School beginners classes start with a warm up. We then go on to some basic movements (say four for the first class) and then put those movements to a piece of music so that you can feel what it's like to dance. We always try to end with a cool down, so that your muscles are happy! In the intermediate classes we concentrate on learning and developing choreographies, we explore performance techniques, and learn and practice new movements. Input from students is always welcome - our repertoire is a collaborative effort.
